YLOO

Since I’ve learned what the phrase YOLO stood for, it has bothered me, because it is grammatically incorrect. My picky nature in regards to the placement of “only” within sentences can be traced back to my high school sophomore English teacher, David McCullough Jr. (some may have heard of David McCullough Sr., author of 1776and a series of other history non-fictions). This past graduation season, McCullough gave the commencement speech to the graduating class of Wellesley High School and much to my delight, mentions his frustration with the grammatical structure of “YOLO.” He also said that no one was special which I’m sure to the Wellesley mothers and all the students who did not have him would have made them slightly angry. Anywho, thank you McCullough for making me a stickler to the English grammar rules. Read his commencement speech here.
