Dear Lesley University Community,
The purpose of this letter is to announce a name change for one of Lesley University’s academic units. Effective immediately, Lesley College will be called the College of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies (LA&PS). This name more clearly and accurately describes the academic unit in terms of the kind of programs it offers current and prospective students.
Much of the impetus for this change arises from an internal assessment of the institution, its position in a very competitive marketplace, and its plans for the future. During the past year and a half, the University has been engaged in a strategic planning process. One of the many facets of that activity has been the focus on ways to strengthen the university brand and make our mission and purpose more visible, especially among those who have not already come to know us. Through this process, we have discovered that the name “Lesley College” actually blurs the Lesley University brand. Prospective students and their parents are confused by the banners and literature which contain both Lesley College and Lesley University. Rather than focusing on sorting out the name of the institution, we want prospective students to focus on all of the outstanding programs and faculty we have to offer. The name change will help us achieve that goal.
A small working committee will be charged with identifying the various places where the name change will need to be made. Not everything can be changed immediately. So, bear with us as we make this meaningful change.
